Who am I?
First let me tell you about who I am as a person, then as a coach, then as a runner. I am first and foremost a human being having a human experience (just like you). I like to think that I am kind, empathic, compassionate and supportive. In my life, I have worked as a librarian, chef, bakery owner, professional runner and coach. I have a lot of animals and like to think that my baby, Pepper Jack, the mini donkey, is the best part about me. I like good food, I enjoy writing, I am fiercely loyal and I have multiple chronic illnesses/autoimmune diseases. Like every one of my athletes, I am just a person, doing the best that I can.
My coaching philosophy is this: what works for one person doesn’t work for everyone. Just because I do something, doesn’t mean it is right for every athlete. I believe in looking at the individual’s needs, background, goals and life in order to come up with a plan that is going to move the athlete towards their goals. I believe that each person is an experiment of one and I am always diligently working on finding what works for each of my athletes specifically. I believe in limiting the number of athletes I take on so that I can maintain real attention and focus on each individual. I am all about community and connection in the sport. I am all about a holistic and sustainable perspective as a coach. Some coaches believe that just because they run means they have the tools to coach, but I believe it takes a unique combination of experience, education and personality to meet the needs of each unique individual.
I have a Master’s in Coaching and Exercise Science. I have a holistic natural chef certification from Bauman College. I have Precision Nutrition and Working Against Gravity Nutrition Coach certifications. I have done my USATF Coaching Certification. I love learning. I also have a Master’s in Library and Information Science, which means, if I don’t know something, I know how to find reliable and credible sources of information.
I have been running marathons since 2005 and ultras since 2006. What follows is way more information than you ever need to know, yet is also not representative of everything I’ve raced.
